Baalbek
بعلبك
Baalbek’s colossal buildings rank among the finest works of Roman imperial architecture at its height. They belonged to the sanctuary of Jupiter Heliopolitanus, which drew thousands of pilgrims in Roman times. The place was sacred long before: in the Phoenician city a group of three gods was worshipped, and in the Hellenistic period it was called Heliopolis.
