Mount Nemrut

Nemrut

Antiochus I, who ruled Commagene from 69 to 34 BC, built this burial mound and its statue-lined terraces; few Hellenistic works were planned on such a scale. The gods portrayed here merge Greek and Persian figures, showing that the kingdom drew on both cultures.
