Hasankeyf
Ḥiṣn Kayfā
Hasankeyf takes its name from Hısnıkeyfa, “rock fortress”: its castle was built in Roman times on cliffs 200 m above the Tigris to watch the Persian frontier, and the town flourished most under the Artuqids. The Neolithic mound of Hasankeyf Höyük now lies beneath the Ilısu Dam reservoir, and many of the site’s monuments were moved to the New Cultural Park in 2017–2019.
