Delos
Δῆλος
Greek myth names the small Cycladic island of Delos as Apollo’s birthplace; pilgrims came to his sanctuary from all over Greece, and trade made the island rich. Few places give so full a picture of a great cosmopolitan harbour of the ancient Mediterranean: the ruins are vast and rich, and they record one Aegean culture after another, from the 3rd millennium BC to the early Christian period.
