Acropolis of Athens

Ακρόπολη

The Parthenon and the monuments around it rose after Athens had defeated the Persians and founded its democracy. Pericles drew up the plan and a gifted circle of artists carried it out. Today the Acropolis is recognised the world over as the emblem of classical civilisation.
