Ancient Sparta
Σπάρτη
Ancient Sparta’s acropolis was crowned by the temple of Athena Chalkioikos, whose interior was lined with bronze sheets, and a theatre of the early Roman Imperial period is set into the hillside. The Sanctuary of Artemis Orthia, a separate site about a kilometre to the east, yielded an Archaic temple and carved ivories.
