Antioch in Pisidia
Ἀντιόχεια ἡ πρὸς Πισιδίᾳ
Antioch in Pisidia, at Yalvaç, has a walled acropolis covering 46 hectares. Its streets follow a Hippodamian grid, with the Decumanus Maximus setting out from the west gate. At the top of the city, on a terrace levelled out of the rock and approached up the Propylon stairs, stands the Temple of Augustus; the terrace was probably set aside at first for a sanctuary of Cybele, the Mother Goddess, and of the moon god Men. The main remains also include a basilica and a theatre whose first phase goes back to the Hellenistic period.
