Cyzicus lies at Erdek, where the Kapıdağ Peninsula joins the mainland, and was one of the few cities with three harbours. It holds the Temple of Hadrian, thought to have been the largest temple in Anatolia; after an earthquake in the mid-6th century AD most of its people left.
